Internship Regulations for International Students of Tongji University

1. International students are allowed to do internships outside the school in Shanghai according to the regulations and the education plan. Paid internships are not allowed.
2. International students applying for internship should meet the following requirements.

Must be registered full-time students of Tongji University.

Must obtain a residence permit (study type) issued by Shanghai Exit and Entry Administration Bureau, including a remark of internship information.

No more than two internships at the same time for one international student.

The internship should meet the requirements of the curriculum and be relevant to the international student's major.

No record of violation of Chinese law or Tongji University rules.

If international students apply for a residence permit (study style) and remark of internship information at the same time, the Shanghai exit and entry administration bureau will only charge for the residence permit.

For those international students who already have residence permits (study style), the Shanghai exit and entry administration bureau will charge 200 RMB for the application of internship information remark.

5. If any relevant information changes, international students should follow the instructions below and update the information:

During the internship, if there is any change of university, internship company, etc., the international student should stop the current internship and apply for updated remark of internship information again.

During the internship, if there is any change of passport, residence permit, etc., international students do not have to stop the current internship. But they should go to the International Student Office to update the information and reapply for the residence permit and remark of internship information.

6. An internship with any of the following situations will be considered as illegal employment:

The internship is not registered with the Shanghai Exit and Entry Administration Bureau.

The internship is not noted on the residence permit.

The internship exceeds the period, address, company, and other information recorded on the "Internship Permit".

The internship is paid (except for transport and food subsidies).

7. Punishment:

International students who engage in illegal employment will be punished by the Shanghai Exit and Entry Administration Bureau according to law. This regulation has been in effect since 15 April 2015. The superseded regulation is invalid from 15 April 2015.
